Checkmate is the final main mission in Episode 1 in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Overview[]
“ With the location of Walker's main base and the communication tower given by Puri, it's time to upload the virus and stop the drone swarm. There might be a lot of resistance along the way. ”
Note: If you are replaying the mission and have already finished Brother Vs Brother, you must start all the way from outside the airfield with the enemies being reset.
1. In the previous mission, Ayana Puri revealed that Walker has moved his headquarters elsewhere and the main broadcast control tower controlling the drone swarm perimeter is located there, which must be accessed to upload the virus Skell gave to Nomad in order to stop the LINCHPIN submarine from leaving the archipelago. Go to Walker's base located in Howard Airfield. All of the enemies will remain the same outside the broadcast station regardless if the player has completed Brother Vs Brother, however, Walker will not be present if that mission has been finished previously.
2. After the Behemoth has been finished, head into the base facility. If Walker has been killed before, you must clear any remaining hostiles that are aggravated to you outside or inside the building. A couple of Wolves may spawn in the main building.
3. Head into the broadcast control room in the northernmost part of the building and upload the virus to a computer stop Cole D. Walker's plan.
4. Nomad contacts Erewhon and watches from a hacked Azraël drone as a Legion swarm destroys the LINCHPIN submarine leaving the archipelago. The mission is complete and Walker's plans are halted. Head back to Erewhon and talk to Jace Skell.
5. A cutscene plays with Nomad together with Mads and Maria Schultz, Paula Madera, Jace Skell, Harmony Fox and Ayana Puri head to a cliffside just outside the Twin Falls waterfall to celebrate their accomplishment. Nomad mentions he caught Walker talking about something called Wonderland, with Puri also mentioning she heard about it, but never got more insight into what it was. Skell remarks about the similarity of the name to the popular children's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Harmony spots a flock of birds, but Maria notices that they're not living beings. The flock of birds is the Legion swarm doing a sort of "dance". A similar swarm of drones fly in front of the Outcasts' hideout as Haruhi and Daigoroh spot them. At the Cape North construction site, Maddox comments that "Project Deus isn't the only one aiming for heights" while Cromwell walks away ominously smiling. At a Sentinel occupied base, Trey Stone is talking to Peter Miles about Walker's death and says that with him gone, Stone is now in charge of the operation in the archipelago. Stone also spots the swarm in confusion. Back at Erewhon, Nomad wonders to himself what happens next. The main story and Episode 1 end.
“ Skell's virus has been uploaded and with the help of the drone swarm, the submarine was destroyed. The A.I. that has taken over the drone swarm seems to have become sentient. It might not be totally over... ”
Rewards[]
- Virus Slayer (Title)
- Commander (Emblem)
- 6800 XP
- 3000 Skell Credits
Trivia[]
- The ending song that plays is a remix of the credits song of Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Christina Cromwell oddly smirks at the sight of the drone swarm dancing in front of the construction site at Cape North. This might have been a suddle hint at the potential plot threads involving the drones, especially in the original plot of Episode 3 "Transcendence" that would be changed to Red Patriot due to negative player feedback on the drone aspect and the futuristic style of the game.
