Under Herzog's Control is a main mission in Episode 1 of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Overview[]

In order to keep the drone control program's built-in backdoor from being fixed, the data servers at the tech lab must be destroyed, and the programmers from the security team extracted.

1. Talk to Jace Skell in Erewhon. He tells that they need a way to prevent the backdoor exploit allowing Skell to hack into the drone network from being fixed by the programmers Trey Stone had abducted shown in the informant's video. And to prevent Sentinel from finishing their work, Nomad must destroy the data servers and rescue the programmers.

2. Go to the Auroa Data Farm located in the Silent Mountain province. Interrogate Sentinel troops and ask around from civilians to locate the prisoners. The data servers are located in the lower level of the complex, next to Round Lake. Destroy the servers to proceed with the mission. (Note, if you use C4 and go too far away, even if it's just about 100 meters, the explosion will do nothing to damage the servers. Shooting at the servers may not alert anyone.)

3. After investigating from civilians, you will find the programmers were moved to the security office at the data farm. When you have destroyed the servers, move to the office. You can interrogate Sentinel soldiers for the location of the building.

4. The security office is located in the farthest building near the generators at the back of the complex. The office is guarded by two sentry turrets, but you can completely pass them safely if you are not alerted. Hack the laptop in the office. You will find an email from Ilsa Herzog telling that the prisoners have moved to the Auroa Survival Shelter.

5. Go to the survival shelter located in the northern part of the Good Hope Mountain province near the Sun Lake, next to a construction site. Use your drone to evaluate the base's defenses. You will find that one of the prisoners escaped to the direction of the nearby lake and the Sentinel soldiers are holding the rest as hostages at the main entrance. Interrogate any soldiers for more information.

6. The escapee is held up behind a rock on the other side of the main road just in front of the shelter's main entrance. Talk to the escapee and escort him to a nearby fisher's cabin.

7. At the cabin, talk to the fugitive. He explains that Herzog wants the programmers to fix the backdoor to the Legion's programming and doesn't hold back to get what she wants. Nomad remarks that he knew of people impressed by her skills.

8. In a flashback back in Afghanistan, Vaughan is interrogating a captive insurgent in a compound while Josiah Hill is cooking a steak nearby. His waterboarding techniques show no effect with Walker becoming frustrated at the lack of progress, so he pulls out a collapsible baton and break's the prisoner's shins to get a confession. Vaughan protests that "breaking shins is illegal", but Walker keeps beating the prisoner. Hill announces that the food is ready. Walker sits down to eat and explains to Nomad that Vaughan is taking the "office politics" too seriously and remarks how he used to work with a South African interrogator in the RET teams who's interrogation techniques were famous for her love to torture. Vaughan comes by to eat and Walker hands him a steak, but drops it intentionally. Vaughan becomes angry at Walker's attitude, but Walker says that the Ghosts are there to babysit Vaughan, not to answer to him and warns him not to get in their way.

9. In the present, the fugitive itroduces himself as Carl. Nomad wants to get into the shelter to rescue the remaining prisoners, but Carl doesn't believe Nomad can do that as he describes it as more secure than Fort Knox. Carl points Nomad to a manager to who could get him to the base. The manager lives in the Antares district, a resort for Skell Tech employees, but Carl doesn't think he would talk. Carl says that Herzog and the person helping her, Sergeant Kent, are the only ones who know the codes to the cells at the shelter. Kent is said to be in his regular outpost. The mission ends.

The programmers are held prisoner in an automated shelter run by the sadistic Ilsa Herzog. Carl, an escapee, has instructions to break them out before they can finish the backdoor.
