The First Korean war (not to be confused with the Korean War of the Cold War period) was instigated in July 4, 2007, with the sinking of the USS Clarence E. Walsh on patrol in the South China Sea. President David Bowers was convinced to send in the elite Ghost Special Forces, who spearheaded the assault against General Paik's forces. North Korea was able to force him to stand down, but months later he activated the nuclear arsenal, and was killed during the assault on his base with the Ghosts destroying his Taepodong missile, ending the war.
