The Kataris 26 is a Bolivian resistance group who opposed the Santa Blanca Cartel and La Unidad in the later half of the 2010s.

Origins and History[]

Bolivian guerrillas

Bolivian guerrillas of the Kataris 26.

When the Santa Blanca Cartel arrived in Bolivia and sent their sicarios to convert cocaleros to their cause through assassinations and intimidation, most of them got scared and submitted to the Santa Blanca. However, a small group of local cocaleros had enough of the Santa Blanca decided to fight back. Other Bolivians rallied to their cause, and thus, the fight against the cartel and La Unidad went to Kataris 26, led by the charismatic Pac Katari and an activist simply known as Amaru, with them setting up camp in the provinces of Itacua.

The Kataris 26 was mainly aiming to drive the Santa Blanca Cartel out of the country to get the coca production back into Bolivian cocaleros’ hands and to overthrow the current corrupt government represented by La Unidad throughout the country. As they were a group of normal citizens working from the shadows, they did not possess any specific type of physical infrastructure. The rebel group could be found anywhere in the forests and mountains preparing for action. However, many of their members were often captured in Santa Blanca and La Unidad raids and kept prisoner in their camps and outposts. The amount of rebel hideouts also began to dwindle, the cartel began attacking these hideouts and searching them for information on future attacks.

DEA agent and cartel infiltrator Ricky Sandoval recruited rebels to eliminate the cartel heads, but they were all killed, blowing his cover, leading to his torture and death.

They were assisted by Nomad's Ghost Recon team during Operation Kingslayer. They helped Katari 26 to become stronger by providing them with resources, freeing imprisoned rebels, and hacking Cartel and La Unidad equipment.

After much of the cartel was destabilized, a number of the rebels loyal to Pac Katari turned on the Ghosts so they could free the country without outside influence, especially the US. However, following the deaths of both Pac Katari and Amaru lead to no organized leadership, they fell into infighting and factionalism that heavily weakening them.

Fallen Ghosts[]

During operation Fallen Lord, the Kataris 26 once again became the Ghosts' allies to fight against Los Extranjeros PMC & La Unidad who were hunting them even if Nomad still bitter over their betrayal mere months ago. By this time, the resistance group had seize new weapons and former cartel bases such as the ship wreck in Caimanes, specifically the rebels carried weaponry such as D-50s, and most commonly used AK-47s. They also used SR-25s instead of the M40A5, but still used the PKP just like the days when they were fighting the cartel.

It's unknown what happened to Kataris 26 when the Bolivian government collapsed following the exposé that forced the president and most of the government to resign in disgrace and/or got arrested, but it's implied that Kataris 26 will negotiate a better deal with the new government.

Weaponry and equipment[]

They are an underfunded and under equipped resistance movement but, nonetheless, they are armed with Skorpions, AK-47s, SR-3Ms, M40A5s and 6P41s. Some are armed with M4A1s, but those are turned to AK-47s or 6P41s when killed.

Each technical they have has a M134 minigun on it, but can only rotate 90 degrees at the front unlike other vehicles whose turrets rotate a full 360 degrees.

Kataris battle

Kataris in combat against Santa Blanca Sicarios.

  • Players can assist the rebels as part of side-missions in the game. Known as Rebel Ops.
  • In the Ghost Recon network app, players can see CIA agent Karen Bowman start the rebels in the game.
  • The rebels can be found around the map riding in pickups and technicals with their coloring and symbol as well as the words "Luchar para Bolivia" which translates to "Fight for Bolivia".
  • Kataris seem to be based on the Peruvian maoist guerilla group "Shining Path" which on its peak was the largest producer of cocaine in Peru.
  • Even though Latin American guerrillas are known for having female fighters, Kataris 26 doesn't seem to have any.
  • They are also known as the Free Forces of Bolivia, this is seen in one of the speeches Katari makes on the radio.
  • In the Fallen Ghosts DLC, there are new Rebel Ops, some involve you weakening the Los Extranjeros in some way, some such involve you hunting down some mole, or capturing a guard tower for the Rebels throughout the countryside, or liberating a Rebel VIP. Once the main "regular" set of Rebel Ops for Fallen Ghosts are completed 1 extra one for each category will be unlocked.
