Maria del Rocio Mendez, better known as La Santera (The Saint-maker), is a key piece of the Santa Blanca Drug Cartel's influence operation.
Background[]
La Santera grew up Catholic in Mexico, obsessed with the blood and killing of the Martyrs in Roman Times. She was convinced that the job of the church was to condemn the evil persons, especially the heretic, erase them from the face of the earth. When she was a teenager, she learned about Santa Muerte. She was fascinated with the fact that her followers must repay Santa Muerte for the good luck she brings them, or they will be punished, leading to many followers living in fear of the death saint. She opened a Santa Muerte sanctuary, and while she gathered a handful of followers at first, she quickly drew crowds similar to the local Catholic church. El Cardenal liked her and introduced her to El Sueño. Inspired by her devotion to the Santa Muerte, Sueño insisted she spread the word in Bolivia, which she is doing in her own way and making her own holy war.
Operation Kingslayer[]
After the Ghosts killed off La Santera's personal sicario teams, steal El Sueño's bible and destroy the gold mines that funded most the cartel, El Sueño ordered the public execution of La Santera. She was captured by cartel members and held in a cartel outpost. The Ghosts saved her by breaking her out and took her to a safehouse for interrogation in hopes of turning her against El Sueño for having her almost killed. Despite Bowman's attempt to turn her, she refused to cooperate. Bowman tried one last time by threatening prison, to which Santera replied saying she'd endure Santa Muerte's hell, which Bowman retorted, "You haven't seen my hell."
Personality[]
Charming, unable to form emotional attachments or free empathy, manipulative, well-educated. She thinks of herself as a contemporary martyr, she's unable to form emotional attachments or feel empathy and she proclaims she is a virgin.
Trivia[]
- After capturing La Santera, the player will be rewarded with 5 skill points, the Skull Bandana mask for player customization and the Lanza Sagrada Unique SVD sniper rifle.
- In the kingslayer file for El Sueño, you can see that La Santera is mistakenly the underboss of the influence operation. It's still Ramon Feliz
