The Lava Shield works similarly to a dam, but protects the surrounding environment from the magma pouring from the active volcano. The excess lava is rerouted to the thermal lavaduct facility, which powers the Prototype Workshop.
At the center of the lava duct is a lift, which takes on top of the lava shield, where the Cerberus boss can be fought, though during freeroam, the lift has been disabled and the Cerberus drone is replaced with a standard Behemoth.
An un-armed Overseer is the only obtainable aerial vehicle on the island (assuming the player doesn't succeed in hijacking a helicopter from patrols or doesn't bring one from the main land) and is located on a helipad on the left side of the shield platform.
