Mads Schulz is a character in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
He is the de facto leader of the Homesteaders. He was formerly in the United States Marine Corps, but grew distrustful of the Government and their actions.
Biography[]
Mads Schulz is a retired U.S. Marine from Pittsburg, California. A good athlete, Mads played defensive end in high school, earning a scholarship to Penn State. After a knee injury in his sophomore year, he dropped out. Like his father and uncles before him, Mads joined the Marines.
Professional Career[]
White serving with the 26th Expeditionary Unit, he was an Infantryman in Liberia and in the Balkans. As an NCO, Mads spent several months off the coast of Somalia in support of UN operations. He believed that the U.S. government was only there for the oil, and he was starting to become distrustful of the American Imperial machine. He was stationed on Auroa in the mid-1990s, as the Navy began the process of closing down their base on the archipelago. He and a few others grew to love the islands and, after his enlistment period ended, Mads stayed on the island and began homesteading. After Auroa was ceded by the U.S. government to Skell Tech, Schulz was initially suspicious of Jace Skell. Skell, however, established good communications between his company and the Homesteaders, and both agreed to stay out of each other's way. After Sentinel came to the islands and the Outcasts' sabotage campaign began, his friend SGT Rowan Brown, an old Seabee, came to him with the idea of building Erewhon in a secret, defensible cave. A work-in-progress, the men have opened Erewhon as a sanctuary to any Homesteaders or Skell Tech employees who need to hide from Sentinel Corp.
Reputation[]
Mads is the rock that holds the Homesteaders together. He was the first of them, and has the most experience with this way of life. They saw him as their leader long before he accepted himself as such. They see him as strong, stable, wise and stubborn as all hell.
Relationship[]
Mads was single for a long time, but he eventually felt in love with Maria, a young woman who had been a child when her family decided to stay on Auroa. Though they have a wide age difference, she's tough enough to put up with his gruff exterior and smart enough to know that gruffness is just on the outside. They may refer to each other as 'husband' and 'wife', but they were never officially married. He's also close to Maria's brother Kyle and their household of Layla and Emmett.
