The SIG MPX is a submachine gun, developed by SIG Sauer company. It was designed in 2013. This weapon was first publicly revealed in 2014 or 2015.
The SIG MPX is a gas operated, selective fire weapon. It has similar dimensions and weight to the popular Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun. Essentially it is a scaled-down SIG MCX assault rifle, chambered for a standard 9x19 mm Parabellum ammunition. It is the first submachine gun with a fully closed and rotating bolt piston system. Such system is typically associated with assault rifles and was developed for the SIG MCX assault rifle. It reduces recoil, increases accuracy and reliability of the weapon. This submachine gun is designed in the way to prevent dirt and water from entering the chamber and causing stoppages. This weapon also has some features of the Armalite M16 assault rifle.
An ambidextrous fire mode selector is located over the pistol grip. It has settings for "safe", "semi-auto", and "full-auto". There are semi-automatic only versions of this weapon.
This weapon is fed from 30-round capacity magazines. There are smaller magazines for civil semi-automatic only versions of this weapon.
